Paul Simpson's practice has historically focused on employment issues - representing private employers in both transactional matters and dispute resolutions. He is frequently consulted on employee issues by businesses of all sizes in the Fredericksburg area and has been actively involved in assisting employers in preparing sexual harassment policies, drug testing policies, employment contracts (including covenants not to compete) and employee handbooks. In addition, Paul regularly works with clients on matters such as resolving various contract disputes, advising on new businesses and start-up ventures, addressing corporate succession issues, and estate planning issues.
Relevant Experience:
- Counsels employers on a variety of employment matters, including drafting employment and non-competition agreements for key sales and other employees, drafting and revising employment handbooks and policies, assisting management in the investigation and defense of sexual harassment claims or other complaints of workplace misconduct, providing employment termination counseling and drafting employment separation agreements.
- Participates in the structuring, contract negotiations and financing for merger and acquisition transactions which have ranged in size from $500,000 to $50,000,000.
- Counsels and advises clients in construction and construction-related industries with respect to contract and lien issues.
- Counsels and advises clients in the defense subcontractor industry on corporate formation issues and issues arising between team members on government contracts.
- Assists clients in accomplishing their estate planning and wealth transfer objectives through a variety of planning techniques including life insurance trusts, family limited partnerships and gifting strategies.
